Which ticket is the right one?
Depending on your interests and budget, there are various ways to visit the Colosseum. The most important difference: the standard ticket only entitles you to visit levels 1 and 2 - the arena floor and the underground require a Full Experience Ticket or a guided tour.
With the audio guide ticket on GetYourGuide, the arena floor can be booked as an option - this is the most flexible option for those who want to decide on the spot.
Official website or third-party provider?
There are two booking channels for the Colosseum: the official website of the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo and accredited third-party providers such as GetYourGuide and Tiqets. Both have clear advantages and disadvantages.
- Cheapest price (18,00 EUR)
- No service fee
- Only in English, Italian, Spanish
- Limited contingent, often sold out
- No skip-the-line included
- No free cancellation
- Skip-the-Line included
- Multilingual, easy booking
- Own contingents - available even when sold out
- Cancellation free of charge (usually up to 24 hours in advance)
- Immediate confirmation by e-mail
- Price higher than official
For most visitors, the surcharge with third-party providers is worth it: the time saved by skip-the-line (up to 3 hours waiting time in peak season) and the more reliable availability outweigh the price difference.
When is the Colosseum free of charge?
On certain days, admission to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill is free for all visitors. These days are part of the national initiative for free admission to museums in Italy.
Free admission on these days
Tickets must be collected on site at the ticket office on these days - no online booking possible. Expect considerably longer waiting times. Access to the arena and the underground is not possible on free days. The Colosseum is closed on January 1 and December 25.
